“Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.”
Joel 2:12-13 KJV
Have you found yourself losing countless hours scrolling thru social media or binge watching television?
Cellphones, Interactive Video Games, Laptops, Tablets, Smart Watches, Smart Tv's, Social Media, Unlimited access to every television show or movie available and the list continues on….
Search, scroll, click, like, share and repeat, it is all so easily accessible yet it is, a huge distraction from our time with God. Instead of drawing near to God, it begins to place a wedge inbetween you and the most important relationship that you could ever have.
- Deactivate, do not disturb, power off, switch on the silent button, or simply unplug. (Set a designated time to devote to God.)
- Too often the mass flood of social media and television tends to allow us to subconsciously compare ourselves to what we are flooding our spirits with daily. (Instead of comparing yourself or your life to what you see in the the world begin to meditate on what the word of God says about you. Ephesians 2:10)
- Instead of obsessively bowing our heads to our devices every day we should be bowing our heads in prayer. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
- Be careful not to make your devices an idol. (1 John 5:21)
Imagine if we spent the same time with God as we did consumed with the wide world of media?
Consider taking some time to unplug from it all and truly connect with God.
Keep in mind the goal of fasting is not to move God, it is to move us closer to God.
